Hypercity {Status Permanent Beta} released!

Hello Seekers (just thought of this, still testing it out)!

The new version of HyperCity is now available! Ignore the fact that the old file said 1.1, that was because I was bad at versioning. This new version of HyperCity is the real 1.0 but I'm also calling it Permanent Beta.

This new version is standalone. It's got the basics of the game, character creation, setting creation, moves, oracles, a basic bestiary,  example of play, and index. There's also an asset sheet with all the existing assets.

I'm quite happy with it and hope you get some play out of it. If you see any typos, please leave a comment.

Cheers!

Thomas

FAQ

1. Okay, but why is it Permanent Beta? I just mean that it's the final version... for now. It's not the fully polished, big chonky book I would've liked. In fact, to finish it, I had to commit to a slim 64 page zine-adjacent size. HyperCity was originally itchfunded. I gave the Playtest Kit away for free but asked people to contribute if they wanted to support a full version. In the end, that itchfunding campaign was only a partial success. It raised some money (around 350$) which told me some people definitely wanted the game. But not enough to fully justify my time and energy in building out a game to the scale of Ironsworn. I'm really honoured that the people who contributed wanted this game to exist. I hope this little itsy-bitsy version is good enough for them. This is the best I could do at this moment of time!

2. Anything left to do? Yes, I need to update the digital character sheet! Hopefully, that is done soon!

3. Where's the art? When AI art generators started, I thought I could use them to source some art for this game - given that I had no art budget to actually commission real artists. Since then, I've come to understand that most artists are against AI Art generators for a variety of different reasons (esp, the question of plagiarism) and I stand with them. So I've decided against using any AI art in this game or in my future games as of now. And since there's lack of public domain cyberpunk art, it seems like the most pragmatic choice was to go for an art-less version. The cover is an exception. It is by Wootha, released in the public domain.
